Fire breaks out at Transneft’s pumping station in Tatarstan

MOSCOW, Dec 4 (PRIME) – A fire broke out at a 20,000 cubic meter out-of-operation reservoir at the Kaleikino oil pumping station of Russian oil pipeline monopoly Transneft in the republic of Tatarstan, two workers are mission, representatives of a regional directorate of the Emergency Ministry told PRIME on Wednesday.

“At 10.28 a.m. Moscow time on December 4, we received information about the fire…Upon arrival at the scene, the fire and rescue brigade discovered that Transneft employees had conducted scheduled cleaning works on an idle 20,000 cubic meter reservoir…The fire was localized on an area of 20 square meters at 11.12 a.m.,” a representative of the ministry said.

Another representative said that two workers that conducted the maintenance works were missing, and that rescuers were searching for them.

Igor Dyomin, official representative of Transneft, told PRIME that the fire had been completely put out, no damage to the environment or pumping of oil through the pipeline system was done. Preliminary data showed that an explosion of gas-air mixture was the reason for the fire, he said.
